I'm about to buy a Profurl furler for my C30 Mark II-T, and was told that I need to determine the thickness of my forestay.

My owner's manual is out on the boat; does anyone know what size the forestay cable is on a C30, assuming it's never been changed?

Thanks,

Bob

Bob,

If unsure, call Kent @ Catalina CA. If original, he will tell ya.
I would bet it's 1/4" or 9/32" dia. 1x19 SS wire.

Catalina's number: 818-884-7700 (PT)

The C30 manual can be found on the C30 Association website: www.catalina30.com. I recommend that everyone have a copy of their manual on their computers. Easy to do. Or, if you always have wifi, you can access them from class association websites anytime, anywhere.

M,

I'm guessing this is in answer to my post.

If so, do you know in fact that the forestay wasn't changed. Do you have first hand knowledge the size is different from the original.

And then you used the word ASSUMED, and we know how that goes.............

why make a committment assuming it's never been changed?
Because I spoke to the PO and he told me it's the original forestay.

Looks like it's 1/4", according to the specs in the manual...

There is an easy way to know, regardless of then manual. Get your swedish micrometer (cresent wrench) and fit it to the stay, use a measuring tape to size it. Never use the measuring tape directly---as little as 2/32 error can mean a huge difference . That how I learned about the meaning of dismantling.

Even better, I looked in the manual; I downloaded the parts manuals from the Intl. Catalina Owners website:

I'm going to order a Profurl 320 in the next few days...
