Matt, Since replacing all my rigging this past year to include two new furlers, from what I read from your description, I think you and your rigger are on the right track. Another option you might have looked at is, you could have installed the replacement stay yourself and used Norseman Swageless Terminal fittings on both ends. I have found that they are easy to install and just as good as Swaged fittings.
