I'm new to the forum. Posted this question yesterday and found no response. Assuming I'm doing everything correctly, I'll try again. Does anyone know of a fastener that will tightly close the foredeck hatch of a 1989 MACGREGOR 26?

If your's is like mine...

The hatch has a screw/ bolt attached to it that fits into a metal bracket which then clamps onto the inside of the deck to hold the hatch down. You tighten the bracket onto the screw/ bolt with a wingnut. It is very secure when the wingnut is tight. Are you missing the extra bracket? When the hatch is open, the bracket is free to roam about the cabin.

STAN, Thanks for the input. I have no fastener on the hatch; only a set of hinges and a collapsable 'pole' that props the hatch open. My problem is I need a fatsener to tightlu close the hatch. The configuartion of the hatch make most fasteners that are readily available quite impractical. I was hoping somebody had the same problem and solved it.

I did not find a bracket with my boat but made one out of very small aluminum angle and pop riveted it to the inside and the screw is tightened up against it. Make sure and file down any sharp edges little kids like to climb in and out of the hatch.
