Our old (+20 yrs) Eberspacher D3L cabin heater (3200 W heat output) recently failed and needs replacing. Cost in parts and labor to repair puts it close to the cost of a comparable Espar heater ($1800-2000). Budget does not support $2k investment of this type and am looking for less costly alternative. Would prefer to stay with forced-air to utilize cabin heat distribution and diesel fuel. On internet search, found a comparable forced-air diesel-fueled cabin heater, NS-2700-2 Toyoset made by Toyotomi, for about $1k new. Does anyone have any experience with this heater? Output is about 2900 W. Appears to likely fit location of our old heater. Looks promising. TIA for your feedback. Mike s/v Charisma 82 H36

Espar replacement

Have you checked with Boat Electric in Seattle on the price of a comparable newer model Espar? If you have the D3L, then it seems like you have everything in place and would just need to replace the actual unit, yes? I was looking at the D4 Airtronic at the Boat Show and I think the cost of the actual unit was ~$1200. I thought it had an internal control box as well, such that you could reuse the existing exhaust, intake, etc... The toyotomi unit looks interesting, but I don't care for the deck flu (sp?) setup... I'll be interested in others' opinions though... Of course, if you do go with this model, then I'd be interested in talking to you about the parts of your old espar. I just came across an eberspacher D3L that I'm hoping to use and don't yet have all the parts! :( Btw, did your D3L keeps things below pretty toasty? thanks, matt

new Espar

I just installed a new Espar D4 ... the unit alone was less than Cdn$1700. I gather that the new units are much improved from their predesessors. You may want to look into getting it from Canada as it may well be cheaper.

Eberspacher repair

I sent our failed heater to boat electric in Seattle and their repair guy is the one who told me that to install get a new Espar would run $1800 to 2000. Am curious to find out how they can get you one for less than 1700. As for our old heater, it is being shipped back to us. When I figure out what I am going to do, will let you know if it is available for parts. Thanks, Mike
