Just had to run in because of the rain and electricty problem.
I have been buffing out the upper part of my hull, waterline to sheer line. I didn't have any marine supply around here, so I went to my local auto parts and paint store and talked with a guy who was knowledgeable about fiberglass cars.
He recommended I buff out the gel coat with Wizard's Turbo Cut. Then wax the surface with Collinite's Insulator Wax. It says right on the bottle for marine as well as cars.
The turbo cut did a great job of getting rid of the oxidation and chalking and left me a nice clean surface to wipe down and then wax. I used Collinite's pre cleaner and then waxed with the Insulator wax on a soft cloth.
WOW!!! Say's it all.
Here is a link to the products.
http://www.aawsales.com/WIZARDS-TUR...UALITY-TIME-RELEASE-COMPOUND-11044_p_241.html It was around $16.00 where I got mine.
http://www.colliniteindustrial.com/ This was about $9.00 per pint. Goes along way.
Here is where I got mine.

I am sure there are similar shops in your home town.
