I was wondering does iny one know what the luff is on a 1984 31H jib sail? If not I will have to pull my sail out and thind a long enough tape measure. If I remember right a 100% would be the distance from the bow to the mast? so a 150% genoa would be 1.5 times that distance aprox. 18 feet for the foot? Paul

The luff is the distance of the bow to the top of the mast (if not factional rig) ie: luff tape. To measure luff take measuring tape to jib hallard and hall it up to top, measure to bow. Foot is 100% bow to mast. 1.5 is correct for a 150% jib. Check the specs on the this web (Boat info/ boat photos& specs) for the measurements of your boat.

You all have it wrong. Yes the luff is the length of the headstay. Using a tape hoisted by the halyard is a good way to measure it. "J" is the distance from the mast to the headstay at deck level. "LP" or Luff Perpendicular is the shortest distance from the clew to the luff of any sail.(which is perpendicular to the luff) A 100% jib has a clew that will reach just past the mast. The LP% = LP/J x 100 "I" is the distance from the base of the mast to the intersection of the headstay (hounds on a fractional, masthead on a full hoist) The leech length will simply affect how high the clew is on the sail. A 100% jib can have a leech of many different sizes dependent on the location of the clew.

I was just hoping someone could give me a ballpark idea how long of a luff I should be looking for in a roller furling. It will be a week before I can get down to the boat to measure the sail or forestay. There is a guy who has a furling for 200 and if it is long enough I will go ahead and buy it before I go down to the boat.

i recall being the measurement. i bough a used sail in the spring and i beleive it was 45' 6" luff (bow to masthead, #6 furl tape) good luck mike ps 1984 hunter 34
