My wife bought me this for Christmas. She knows I still want to be an astronaut when I grow up. It’s the coolest non-sailing thing I’ve ever owned and is still available from LEGO.
PS It was *her* idea to display it on the mantle in the den. Dang I have a great wife!

Love it ! So great that we can grow old without having to "grow-up". I'm with you.

That is so cool..... I want one !!!!! I had a plastic model kit back then of the same thing. Built everything and worked the same. I was enthralled with all the space shots and recently found a scrap book I kept of the Mercury and Apollo missions. I've watched The Right Stuff a zillion times and just recently Hidden Figures, a really great story of the women behind NASA.

Btw I was 10 at the time. Watched on our B&W tv upstairs in our parents room. My dad took pictures of the landing on the tv. Will have to dig out those slides some time to have a look again.

I was watching, in skivvies, at NAS Pensacola [as aviator candidate training] since a Navy Aviator was the first man on the moon. My DI gave us permission after lights out.

Neil Armstrong

Which one was he on the Lego?
Jim...

PS: I hope you were not near Amtrak wreck!

Dang James. Sounds like you had an exciting time of it. If I were to name any of the figures they would be Charlie Duke and John Young. Mostly because Charlie and his wife spent the night in our home in 2010.

We live about 45 minutes from where the wreck occurred. But we’re in Jensen Beach, FL right now.

I was at camp, watched it on a b/w tv and then went back to perusing one of the counsellors. The joys of puberty.

Or pursuing? The hope of puberty is you’ll catch that you pursue. The challenge will you know what to do if you catch the pursuee.

It's getting to the point where you have to double check every single word. I thought these blasted machines were s'posta make things simpler?
It's no wonder people haven't been back to the moon in years, you'd enter it into the route planner and the bloody thing would take you to Venus.
"recalculating"....

When I was a young boy I told my mom "when I grow up I want to be an astronaut". but then I realized I can't do both.
The story of our lives..... ;)

When I was young I also wanted to be an astronaut. My teachers told my parents the same thing since I was taking up space.

I too remember watching the landing. Just a short 2 years after the Apollo 1 accident. My wife, who is Korean, said she watched it at a department store window. Back then TVs were scarce in Korea.

Nice model.
