Folding wheel clearance

I'd like to replace the 40 inch wheel on my 2002 C320 with a folding model from Lewmar but I'm concerned about the clearance between the spokes and the front of the Navpod instrument panel. There is maybe 1/2 inch at the closest point with the current flat wheel, the folder appears to have some wider spots on the spokes where the composite handles cover the hinges. Anyone got a folder on one of these boats where the panel is so close ? I've got a little nylon spacer in there now just for piece of mind.
Also anyone also got a Mark I (black color) Raymarine wheel pilot on a folder ?

Ted, we have a Folding Lewmar wheel and love it. I can't picture what you are asking so I will just say we were able to get a bigger wheel than the one that came with our Cat.30, and it fits fine.

I've included a link to the Navpod site with a picture, on the boats with instruments on the pedestal the spokes only clear the 2 protruding corners by 1/2 inch. If the thick part of the spokes on a folder are at this point they may not clear when turning.
