I've found several folding props on Ebay. Trouble is, all my specs are on the boat, and I'm stuck at home. Would anyone, off the top of their head, know the shaft size for a '92 Hunter 28? What else do I need to know to order a folding/feathering prop on line? Shaft diameter, I assume. Prop diameter? Pitch? What about "folding" versus "feathering"? Brand names? Sources (and prices) for new? I'm a bit green when it comes to inboard Diesel auxiliaries, any advice would be appreciated.

Call Martec

They will have the specs and you will need to match the prop to the boat. The prop will have numbers on it. Call Martec with these numbers and they will tell you if it will fit. Cliff

They will probably ask you for the shaft size; the engine and horsepower as well as the transmission ratios; the dimension from the end of the shaft to the rudder as well as the dimension from the end of the shaft vertically to the hull. If you have a choice of two sizes and correspondingt pitches, the larger diameter will open more easily. If money isn't an issue get a geared feathering prop instead as opening it is not an issue. With a Martec folder, if you have some forward momentum it becomes dificult to get the prop to spin itself open against the pressure of the water flow.

Probably 1 shaft.

Robert: You probably have a 1" shaft on a 2GM... Be sure that you know what you are getting into with a folder. They will enhance your sailing performance, but will probably degrade your motoring performance. We have a couple of boats in our marina with folding props and they don't back up very well. They also do much for quick stopping power. If your goal is to race, then they are fine. You also want to be sure that they are in excellent condition. I think that the price to rebuild them starts at about $100 (+++). If you check out the SPEC's for your boat they should give you the diameter and pitch for the std. 2 blade prop (probably something like a 15 x 12.
