I would like to put a folding prop on my Hunter but there does not seem to be enough room between the prop shaft and the rudder. Has anyone done this and what prop did you use. I have a PYI vibriation coupling between the trans and the shaft flange. This could come out if necessary. Thanks Jim

Ideas.

We also have a 33.5 (1988) with the PYI flex coupling. We have purchased a Campbell sailer fixed 3 blade instead (see west by north enterprises website) as it is about the same drag as the old 2 blade fixed with increased forward and reverse thrust as well as what has been described as dramatic decrease in vibration. Only prop made specifically for sailboats and around $400.00 US. As far as folding, some dont fold back but the blades rotate instead, so that the leading edge points directly forward to reduce drag. Maxprop does this. You might want to also check Autostream and Martec for this feature. That way, prop and rudder clearance is not an issue. Good luck. Once we install our Campbell Sailer fixed 3 blade I will post a review for you other cost conscience sailors out there Happy sailing

Consider Feathering Prop

We had a 2 blade feathering MaxProp installed on our 33.5 four or five years ago. It has given us excellent service, feathers easily, and increases our speed under sail. The propeller also provides increased thrust in reverse. The only drawbacks are that it must be lubed every couple of years and the cost (which doesn't matter because it makes you go faster). I understand that the new "plastic" version does not require lubrication. Friends of ours have that version (also on a 33.5) and I think that they are very happy with it. Good Luck, RB

Check out CDI feathering

CDI makes a selection of polymer 2 blade and 3 blade props. I have a 2 blade on my 33.5 with about 1 knot additional speed both under sail and powered. The CDI design also features adjustable pitch. For the 33.5, I would recommend a 3 blade to reduce vibration. Good luck
