folding prop. I just bought the boat and had to have the shaft and shaft support replaced. it appeared that the prop was rubbing on the rudder while it was folded. because I was new to the boat, I had no way of knowing if I could remove enough lenght on the prop or propeller shaft. So I replaced it with a 12x12 fixed.
SeaBee;If you Email Martec with the size/type of your boat along with engine size and transmition they will tell you the best prop for your boat. I just put a feathering (Gori) prop on my 34 and the prop manufactor was a big help in my deciding what I would go with.Capt.HawkRogueWave
The advice about emailing Martec is the best you are going to get.....they will give you the proper size for the engine.....Frankly I do not remember the size on my 299 w/2QM15 Yanmar, but I put it on the boat in 1979....sent it to Martec just because it deserved to be checked out in 1986.....never touched it again and sold wth boat with it working like a charm in 2005.....I am putting a new Martec on my new boat as reccomended by Martec....They are PERFECT.....never a problem..Had one on every boat I owned since 1971
I have had a folding prop on Kaizen for years. Its a 12 X 13. Not perfectly optimal for the engine but still ok. In fact, Martek will recommend a bigger one but, be careful as Dave pointed out there is not much room between the shaft and rudder. The 12 inch is as big as you can go and not hit the rudder.
