I am thinking about changing my 2 blade fixed prop to a folding prop mainly to reduce drag while sailing. I don't have a problem with the performance of the prop under power. I'm not sure which size prop I should replace it with. I have to confirm whether it's a 15x15 or a 15x12. Should I replace it with the same sized 2 blade folding prop or is there a better one for this boat. Also will I need to repitch if changing the prop size.

Prop spec.

Dear Rob, Thanks for the note. Our records show the Hunter 34 to have a 3GM Yanmar. The spec two blade propeller for that boat was a 15” x 12” two blade 1” shaft. Our records also show that the vessel may not accept a larger two blade prop then a 15” diameter. If the current propeller works fine under normal motoring conditions, I would suggest that you maintain the current configuration. If you choose in increase the diameter I would reduce the pitch 1” for every 1” increase of diameter. You will need to also provide the rotation of the propeller. This is determined by looking at the propeller from the stern facing forward. Prop drops to right in forward gear it’s a RH, drops to the left a LH. Hope this helps. Sincerely, Kevin L. Woody
