Phil Bilger (I was thinking Bolger) designed or is designing boats that are original, shall we say. I'm not so surprised to see this, and with real sails it would probably fun to take out. As far as folding, I suspect someone asked him for that to suit some transportation need.

Phil has passed on... sad to say.

But he sure did design a lot of very different (and very cool) boats.

Here is another interesting design (not one of Phils). It is called a Wa'apa. It disassembles into three parts and you can opt to leave the middle section out to make the boat shorter if you wish. You can fit the entire thing in the bed of a pickup.

Can we call that a junk rig? Very interesting boat. And for a day sail romp, I'm guessing a lot of fun. I think I'm feeling the stirrings of an urge to build something.

That's a Bolger Folding Schooner. Built to plan it's 32 feet. A friend has one and has sailed all the Texas 200's events with it. Pretty fast boat, and yes, it's hinged in the middle and the stern folds over the bow section on the trailer
