Anyone with an Autohelm 4000? where is your fluxgate compass mounted? Especially interested in mounting of fluxgate on an Oday 39-40. Mine is mounted aft of the steering wheel, in the LP Tank locker. I did not instal my 4000, boat came with it. It does not work well. When I do an auto config for deviation, the returned number is 23. The book states anything over 15 is bad and the fluxgate should be placed in another location. Thanks

Fluxgate Cmpass

Hi, Capt M. I installed my raymarine 4000 myself the proper place to mount the compass is close to the center of the boat and away from any METAL objects. I had a oday 40 4 years ago I installed the 4000 on the portside under the cushions locker cabin wall in my oday 28 which I have now. and my deviation 0 it macthes my pedal compass Its great for tack ing when you alone just push the two buttons together and you tack 100 or 120 degrees or what you want set it for. Good Luck Frederick Pierce

4000 mounting

Mine is mounted near the centerline on the dinning area. My 4000 did not work well when I bought the boat. It is a ST4000. I down loaded the manual from Raymarine.com, did the dealer setup, set the latitude for my area (38 degrees)then turned circles at 2 knots (in the users mode) until the deviation was set, adjusted the heading to my helm compass. It takes a day or two to settle out and now it works great. Kinne

Thank You All

Thanks I appreciate your inputs and will relocate the compass (most likely as a Spring project). It's a shame to have and not to use. Everyone who has an autopilot just seems to love it...

Oday 37 Fluxgate Compass

After trying several locations, mounting the fluxgate compass below the forward sink in the galley resulted in less than a 2 degree "error" for our Raymarine 4000 autopilot.

Install the fluxgate compass for the Autohelm 4000 below the forward sink in the galley. You'll get less than a 2 degree "error"!!
