Flushing the Yanmar Engine

My manual only says I should replace my engine coolant but that's it. No instructions....I looked all over the darn engine and could not find a petcock to drain the coolant.Do we have to flush these things everytime we want to change the coolant?

If your motor is a 2GM, you should find two petcocks(one for the block and one for the heat exchanger)on the left side of the motor.Look for a clear plastic tube. It will leed you to the petcock. With the motor warm, open the petcock and drain the antifreeze into a gallon milk jug. Flush with clean water. Then refill with a 50/50 mix antifreeze/water. Don't forget to change the mix in the reservoir. After you run the motor for the first time, go back and check the coolant level in the reservoir.Hope this helps, Bob

Havoline Extended Life, it is pink. It is now recommended by Yanmar.

I REALLY need to get a good manual for that engine. I thought those petcocks were related to the fuel system and, as long as the engine was running fine I wasn't going to mess with them....Thanks for getting me on track.Do you know where I can get a good manual for my engine?

Your Yanmar deal should be able to order an owner's manual and a service manual. Service is more detailes.Chilton also has one for a number of Yanmars. At one time it was on Amazon and Borders here. It was a very good manual.
