Flush "sequence valve (?)"/gasket"

After continual recurring problems with my Jabsco manual head (getting it to pump dry), I finally figured it out (I think)! The problem was that after about a season (after replacing the top pump gasket with the two flappers...the one that the flush wet/dry lever operates), I would get a "hydraulic lock" when trying to pump the bowl dry unless physically holding the flush lever hard to the right. A new gasket always solved the problem, for awhile. This year I bought a new one by itself (as opposed to in the rebuild kit), and guess what? The little flappers BOTH had bronze 'pucks' on them. All the previous ones only had a bronze 'puck' on one, and solid rubber on the flapper that was lifted by the flush control lever. I think there's an issue with this solid rubber flapper after awhile. If you're having the same problem, try finding the gasket that has TWO bronze pucks. Any thoughts or have you heard this one before Peggy? Tim

Sounds like a redesigned flapper valve

Problems with wet/dry valves and flapper valves have been endemic in Jabsco toilets made in the last 7-8 years. My guess is, Jabsco has tried to solve the flapper valve problem by adding another "puck" to it...and only very recently, 'cuz the valve in their most recent drawing only has one.

New gasket has 2 bronze pucks.

After having problems with my Jabsco this season, I searched for the best price of the upper gasket on the web. One of the sites had a photo showing two bronze pucks at a good price. I also called Customer Service at Jabsco and was pleasantly surprised when the tech said he would send me the part I needed, no charge. I received the bought one first. There was a spring included that I did not find when I disassembled my original (maybe it fell into the pump?). I called Jabsco again and asked where exactly does the spring go. He took my e-mail address and sent me a photograph of the spring installation to the top cover. I also had a problem deciding where the oblong plastic piece with the large hole at one end and curved corner went. I finally found that it installs nicely UNDER the gasket.. DUH! My pumping problems were solved, and now I have a free second gasket kit as a spare. Great service!
