Fluorescent Double wired?

This weekend, while working on my 1981 Hunter 33, I removed the old fluorescent light located above the galley sink. The plastic cover was cracked and severely discolored. I was surprised to see that it appeared to be double wired- 2 wires to the red and 2 wires to the black. Does one set carry power to something else in the cabin? Are all the fluorescent lights like that?... Also, was this original equipment on the old Hunters? The wood under the light looked untouched. Thanks folks. Ed H

That's definitely how the lights in my 1983 H37C are wired - the "2nd set" of wires goes on to the next light down the line. Basically from the DC panel, one wiring feed to starboard side lights, and one feed to port side lights.

Daisy-Chained. I think that is how most of the Hunters were wired.

Yup. That wire goes on forward to the settee light and then to the V-berth light on the starboard side.

H-34 Electrical

Ed.. for your reference, here is a scan of my original owners manual electrical diagram for the Hunter 34.. Yours is similar.. You can see how they've run the power to the lights on the same circuit..

I also have three florescent fixtures in my 1980 36'. Attached is a pic which happens to show the one above the galley. An identical one is over the chart table. I'm not sure if the one above the head vanity sink is the same. My guess is that Hunter did install these. But looking at your picture, yours does appear a different model than mine.

After noticing Kloudie's post with the 34' scan, I thought to look at my pdf copy of the Cherubini Hunter manual that I have which I recalled covers all the models. Here is the 33's DC wiring page which does show three florescent fixtures as included in the original fittings. I don't know if this particular manual version might pertain to earlier or later 33 models than yours. Anyway, seems to show the one above the galley sink plus two others.
