flow of aft starboard and center water tanks

When filling water tanks, will both tanks fill if water is placed into only one side of the boat and do both tanks empty one tank at a time without valve adjustment. It seems my tanks empty very fast and I wonder if tank that is secured under aft starbord is actually empty or if I am missing a valve that will switch tanks. 1986 c36 (585) Other tank is located aft center and can readily tell it is empty. Those few showers and few dishes washed do not seem to take nearly the amount of time it takes to fill tanks. Flow for those chores seem minimal.

Could have a leak

BORE the quick depletion of water: You could have a leak in your tank or water lines. It'd be hard notice as the water typically drains to the bilge then gets removed by the bilge pump.

Check the plumbing?

Bo,You should try to follow the hoses between the two tanks. I've seen C36s plumbed both ways. Most have some sort of manifold (multiple tanks feeding one pump via shutoff valves) between the aft tanks and the pump under the dry bin. Some have the two hoses from the two tanks "Teed" together before they reach the pump, thus acting as one larger tank. Most owners want the tanks seperate for filling and using, in case of a leak you only lose one tank, not both. Also, you get a better feel about how much water you are using. Usually the starboard fill goes to only the starboard tank, and the port fill only goes to the centerline tank. Usually the vent hoses are tied together, but you'd see water spurting out the vent well before water would fill the other tank thru the vent hose. Also, as Andy said, you could have a leak. Look under the aft berth, around the area of the shaft log. If you see a small trickle of water heading towards the bilge, the centerline tank or fitting is leaking. Tanks are connected

On our 1983 Hull # 91 both tanks are connected together. You should be able to find the T connection if you pull out the drawer under the sink and look back to the left. At least that's where I found mine. You can't fill both tanks full from 1 side. Once the first tank was full you would then have water coming out the vent. So you would stop filling and after the water finishes moving from one tank to the other you may be at half in both. You need to install shutoff valves for each tank and fill them separately.
