Walked through our new 33 today. The main salon has an overhead flourescent light fixture. Only one side of the fixture will light at a time. Is this normal for the fixture set up?

It depends on the units. If you want high quality flourescent light fixtures, just change them out with AlpenGlow units.

Mine

On my 2007 H-36 I have three of those lights with a switch next to Nav station and they all work well with the light completely on both sides, sounds kind of wierd that one side at a time.
Do you have a switch on the light it self and than a switch on the wall.

I also have a 2004 H33 and recently had the same problem. Simply need to buy two new fluorescent tubes - one was getting bad (you can see a darkening at one of the ends of the tube)

Found a replacement at a hardware store - cheaper than WM

The fixtue has two switches, one on each end. Each switch turns on half the fixture, but you can't turn on both sides at the same time. I'm thinking the fixture is wired for a night bulb with a red tube cover for night time. The other option is its wired wron.

OK mine has only 1 off and off push switch and both bulbs go on and the wall switch master switch.
I guess you could change the wiring to both if you need to but usually we don't keep all 3 lights on at night because too much light and we use 1 or 2 of the light as needed with on e over the galley sink and other 2 over the saloon and 1 moe to side.
Like I said to us we don't need that much bright light at night.
I have been adding led lights that use 2 AA batteries in my rear berth and bathroom and vee berth and all over to cut back on battery using,my wife doesn't like the bright lights at night,Wall mart special led in a package of3 or 4 are the best that we have found,2 settings.
We only just added the battery led from wall mart and work good in the rear berth for night call to head.
