I called around to several state parks with boat ramps and found some very interesting news.

To launch from many state parks cost $11 and is only day use. You cannot leave your vehicle and trailer overnight.

This is where is gets interesting. If you have an annual pass, you launch for free. If you want to stay on your boat overnight and have access to the parks facilities and your vehicle with it and the trailer in the park, you just pay a $5 primitive camping fee!

Five dollars! How great is that!

Family yearly passes are $120 or a single pass is $60. After July 1st there is a 25% discount for active duty and honorably discharged Vets, just have to have your DD for 214 at the purchase.

Considering a private marina in these same areas will often charge around $70 for just a put in and pull out and then you have to pay to keep your vehicle and trailor on their site, I would say that entire deal from Florida is really sweet.

We just made a road trip up to the Chesapeak Bay where we ramped off and stayed 4 nights on the water, parked the trailer at the marina and the total fee was $20.00. At our local marina they charge $10.00 to ramp and $3.00 to park overnight. For day use it's only $3.00.

What was the marina's name at Chesapeak Bay that had that rate? I am always looking for places to haul my boat to.

Holiday Marina, it was off of Hwy 216, I can't remember the town. it's a mom and pop operation. real nice people. the slips there were $700.00 per year. going out from the marina you go into the Rouge river which goes into the bay.

Put in at Flamingo....................

http://www.nps.gov/ever/planyourvisit/flamdirections.htm

.................... and you can leave the tow vehicle/trailer for no daily fee.

Put in at South Dade Marina.......

http://southdademarina.com/rates.html

................. and it is just a 5.00 parking fee per day.

We are going to put in at All American by Charlotte Bay....

http://www.aaboatstorage.com/#storage rates

... and they quoted me $75 per month to keep the Suburban/trailer there ($2.50 a day).

While we are in that area Ruth's daughter and granddaughter with her new baby might fly down and we are looking at staying with them at Jensen's (Captiva) .....

http://www.gocaptiva.com/twinpalm.htm

.....where we can get a 2 bedroom 2 bath cottage for $200 a night and keep the sailboat at the dock there for an additional $20 a night. It looks like the place is popular with past guests.

Anyone else know of places that are reasonable in the Charlotte Bay area were we could get a cottage on the water with a place also to keep the boat at a reasonable cost?

For SW Fl sailing do a search for St James city on the S end of Pine Island or Bokeelia on the N end. It's a quiet central sailing location between Ft myers bch/ Sanabel/ captiva/ Lake Okeechobee/ Boca Grande. Easy ICW/Gulf access. Much nicer location than way way WAY(and a lock!!??) back in El Jobean. Summer rates are mostly negotiable especially these days. Love the twin palm cottage pic on Captiva.
Enjoy.

PS Thanks to the OP for the heads-up on state park primitive parking fees. It'll be a huge help in the keys.

I haven't found any place down that way to leave the tow vehicle and trailer for a month or two that is reasonable rate wise. Do you have any suggestions?

We just be up by El Jobean to put in and then at the end of the trip to take out. We plan on making it down to the St. James City area and many more places.

Thanks for the tip though,

Sum

Sumner, Cayo Costa State Park has cottages cheap, but they are primitive.Slips for boats, but no water or electric at the dock.

Thanks, and we do plan on visiting there. It sounds great.

We were looking for a place that Ruth's daughter and her granddaughter who has a new baby could meet us via rental car from the airport. Jensen's looks like the best deal so far if we do this as we can arrive there with the boat and meet them there.

Thanks for thinking of us,

Sum and Ruth
