This was tried before by a state representative that had a waterfront home on Sarasota bay. It seems there was a sailor that was anchored somewhat close to the reps residence and enjoyed morning stretching exercises in the buff. The reps wife spent too much time watching and that motivated the rep to initiate action. Similar to the Captiva problem.

I still feel 200 feet is reasonable. I really despise the "My side should have it their way all the time" mentality that has become a part of our country's landscape. You would not expect to drop anchor on a lake just 50 feet from someone's home. It is really sad that we need legislation because some boaters do not have courtesy for someone's home. It is just sad that reason has become a thing of the past and people only want what is good for their selfish desires.

Selfish desires? You are talking about the land owners who are pushing this right?

This precedent could also be applied to the beaches. Homeowners on ocean beaches are currently subject to public use of the beach below the high water mark and theres plenty of drunken *******s doing plenty of stupid stuff on the beaches in front of homes and condos. Fence off 200' of beach from the high water mark to block the dirty filthy public from spoiling the view.

Anyone in support of the 200' setback has not anchored in S Fl.

I have anchored there many times. Sailing to Sarasota in a few days and will be gunk holing in the Keys all summer. I am cool with 200 ft.

I live in a home on the water here in Florida. I also own a sailboat. And I just signed the petition.

No Tom, I was reminding Don that the proposed setback is not from their "house". 200 feet from the high water mark eats up soo much bottom area.
