Good points and appreciated! On boats with a sink against the hull, I've been assuming a vented loop would be the way to go, as well as possibly closing seacocks while under way. Is that typical? If possible, I think best to have sinks towards centerline, but with such a small boat just trying to understand pros/cons for each possibility. No matter what we do - there will be full side access to both sides of the engine (fold down panel on shower wall for example). The Fiance shares all of the liveaboard dream and work with me luckily. She enjoys it as much as I do and is very handy and learning quickly!!!

I'll have to look for some CAD stuff to play around with.. We have endless hours of footage and have been editing for an eventual youtube channel also lol.. it's more work than the boat with software
My boat has some kind of flapper-valve one way thing in the head sink drain, which is hard to port.

My lavatory sink is up against the hull, and the drain exits the hull above the waterline. No loop, just right out from under the sink. I can hear water gurgling by the thruhull when she is over on her ear.

My galley sink is centerline, and exits under the waterline. Thruhull, and a valve. I don’t usually close this thruhull when sailing…but I usually do when leaving the boat…

Hi All,

We completely gutted every bit of the interior and drive train and are planning on building all new everything basically. What I'd like to get some thoughts on, are redesigning the layout completely.
You might learn a few things by tuning in to "Sailing Magic Carpet" on YouTube. This couple is on their second rebuild and they are currently redesigning the interior... pretty much where you are now. You might be inspired to do some structural enhancements also. Perhaps think about insulation and such. Anyway, take a look. Really neat couple... She's Canadian, he's Italian... they're living the dream but working hard just make sure it endures.

Do you mean, you can't without a pump?
I have never seen a pump on a galley sink drain. Gravity works well enough. If you do consider a pump with a vented loop you will probably need a macerator pump. I suspect you will be a pioneer in this endeavor. Or, you could locate the galley sink near to the centerline as boat builders have for decades. Plan carefully.

Thanks! I follow several channels and have seen them but haven't watched much. I started based on your recommendations and def interested to see what they do. We're looking to beef up everything as we go, new chainplate holding structure, new compression post, kevlar reinforcement on mid section and final layer over glass will be vinyl wrapped rigid insulation I think for noise reduction and insulation. And we're really trying to avoid anything that can be damaged by water wherever possible by potentially using PVC for non-structural/critical and starboard where it is..

It's quite a bit different in the particulars, but their attitude and willingness to tackle the hard stuff is akin to yours. This couple is pretty attentive to their subscribers and I'll guess a few questions in their comments section might get a response. The husband is a perfectionist and I think there's just so much to learn from his patience, planning and willingness to not cut corners. He seems undaunted when the project throws him a curve once and a while, her too. Things like reinforcing chainplates, replacing thru hulls or closing them up entirely are often jobs that lest fastidious people will put off.

A good example of that are the episodes about re working the chain locker. They wanted to relocate it down near the keel, rather than up high at the fore peak, for better ballasting. They had trouble with the chain not sliding correctly because of the angle of the hawse pipe. Anyway, it's interesting how they solved the challenge. I like that kind of stuff. Okay.. good luck. Keep us abreast of your progress. Hey... why don't you start a YT channel and upload it.. I'd watch. :)

Don’t forget that Aladino worked as a shipwright…his skills are WAY better than mine.
