The packing nut on the prop shaft is actually two big plastic nuts that screw together. One half is fixed and the other unscrews. I want to replace the flax, but I'm not sure where it goes? Inside the fixed nut or inside the movable nut?
The flax will be inside the fixed part of the nut. You will need to dig out the old flax; they make a tool for this or you can try to make your own. If your boat is in the water expect some water to come in while you do this job. Don't overtighten the nut when you are done--you should have 5-10 drops per minute coming through when you are under power.
