Emerald Coast Meet

I think its a great idea. How about Destin harbor for a night in October. It's cooler then. Maybe an afternoon at Crab island with a little swimming and beer?

Would like to join you...
I'd like to join this little rendezvous, if we can make it happen. My only problem is trailering the boat up there... I have a H23 that has most of her knots logged on Choctawhatchee Bay, though she's currently on her trailer in Key West. Perhaps you would consider an overnight in a quieter place, like Spectre Island (up the Santa Rosa Sound)? It's about 3/4 mile west of Liza Jackson park on HWY 98 (near the Red Lobster)... Well protected, plenty of fairly deep water, near facilities, but quiet and somewhat secluded as well... Manatee Point is also a good hidey-hole out there. Of course, I think this would only attract sailors from the Ft Walton/Pensacola area. Maybe we should look a little further east (Port St. Joe?). --Jon Bastien H23/H25

I make almost a monthly trip to Eglin if y'all decide on a date I will try to time my next trip to join you. I am not sure about bringing my boat so I may need to beg a ride out to Crab Island.

Where are Spectre and Crab Islands?
A meet in Fl panhandle sounds great. I have a few days off in October though it doesn't seem likely at this date that I could trailer my h26 to the Destin/Pensacola area from New Orleans. However, I am interested in the area and at some time would enjoy meeting other hunter sailors around there. A question: as I scan NOS chart 11385 (Chart-kit reduction) I cannot find either Spectre Island or Crab Island, where are they? Can someone give me coordinates?

Crab Island is underwater just inside the Destin bridge. Lots of white sand and water and space for everyone. I'm off for a week or so to seattle then back. By then maybe we can pick a weekend in Oct. and get real serious.

Hunter Rendezvous
October sounds great. Maybe start off at Crab Island, then over night at Marker 50 (Spectre Island?). We keep our boat in Tom's Bayou. Where is yours? We are also members of Bluewater Bay Sailing Club. You can e-mail me at,"sailldydi@aol.com." when you set a date. Bob.
