I would like to get peoples opinions on towing service, Sea Tow or Boat US, in FL, mainly the Tampa area.

Sea Tow

I am sure Boat U.S. is great as well, but we have had Seatow for 3 years now and we did use them in St. Pete and they were awsome. I did have Vessel Assist once and can't say much positive about them. Brian

Good word

I'll put in a good word for BoatUS. I just used them last month and they were very careful to insure my rudder was free before pulling off the bottom. I will have to say it seems to depend on the tow captain rather than the service. I used See-tow last year and they pulled the boat off and left me with a bent rudder post and a leak and a large insurance bill. This is Florida and a towing service is a must or a good insurance policy. It is not if, but when you will need them.

Another Option

Join the Coast Guard Auxiliary and you will right away know a bunch of guys all set to come help with a tow if you need one.

Might not be able to make a 'bad' decision...

We lost our engine one day out of Isla Mujeres and, after sailing back to St. Pete, had to use a tow to get up circuitous set of canals to a friend's dock, across marginally deed-enough Boca Ciega Bay, late in the night. Boat/U.S. met us at the channel on time and handled the tow (and the navigation) quite professionally. Actually, the operators were a husband/wife team formally from LI, NY where retired as a maritime policeman. The dispatcher was professional, and fortunately the tow ($750) was insured. So...you may have several good choices available. Jack
