So we have the typical 80's hunter problem with our holding tank. I've got the sole screws out and tomorrow I'm going to open it up and get it fixed. Does anyone have any words of wisdom? Photos? I wish I would haves??

Fixed???

Fixed how???

If it's a metal tank, don't waste the time and effort...replace it. 'Cuz the first leak in a metal waste is always only the FIRST leak, never the only leak..

The tank is a void in the liner with a lid on it (it's all fiberglass) that has a tendency to pop open. I'm going to do this for now and maybe around christmas I can justify a lectrasan : )

Thats the one very stupid thing Hunter did on the early 40s

Aha...I have a suggestion for the fix, then...

The tank is a void in the liner with a lid on it (it's all fiberglass) that has a tendency to pop open. I'm going to do this for now and maybe around christmas I can justify a lectrasan : )
I suspect that the lid pops open 'cuz it's warped. Replace it with a 3/8"-1/2" piece of Polyethylene or polypropylene cut to fit. Seal it with a rubber gasket (don't use any sealant, a gasket seals better and lasts a lot longer)...secure it with screws. Guaranteed odor-proof and leakproof. Now MIGht be a good time to relocate some fittings maybe...that depends on where they are now and whether you have the space above the tank to improve anything.
