I have a 95 351 with a lead keel and last season tapped the bottom. There are a couple of nicks and one of the wings has a small gouge on the underside. what is the best way to fix this? Can I just sand and use marinetex then paint or should I prime with interlux 2000. Thanks

Keel Dings

Good morning, I really don't think that just sanding and using marine tex is going to be a permanent remedy for you dings and gouges. I would start by using a drill powered wire brush to really clean the area well. Get rid of all the old paint and any kind of Corrosion ( white crumbly stuff) that might be there. It should look shiny when you are done. Wipe the area with MEK or another strong solvent to get it really clean. To fill the gouges I would use the West System epoxy with phenolic microballons or micro spheres as a filler. Give the dings a prime coat of the unfilled epoxy. This will allow the material to bond better to the lead and then fill in with the West system. Make sure you follow the West System instructions carefully and you should be okay good luck Charlie
