Has anyone had to drill out a broken screw on a Bomar hatch. One of the hatch arm hinge screws is broken. Other than the arm the hatch is in great shape and I hate to have to replace it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Broken screw

Brian, I assume the head if the screw is gone and you can see the body of the screw in the hole, right? Brian, have you ever used an "Easy out"? You drill a small diameter hole in the body of the broken srew, then tap the correct size "Easy out" bit into the hole. This is like putting a new head on the broken screw. Then all you need to do is turn the easy out bit and it will unscrew the broken screw. You should be able to do this without enlarging or damaging the hole. Regards, Big Joe

Broken Screw

Joe, Thanks. I have used them and that was my next step. I was curious if anyone else has had success with fixing the hatch. Since it is cast metal it is more brittle than steel. Do you know if the screw goes all the way through the side cover. The screw is in tight and I need to soak with silicone before trying the Easy Out. Thanks again. BRian
