I was asked to access the amount of money needed to fix up a 1981 Hunt-22. Little did I know that it was going to be this bad. How much would it be to overhaul the boat? Its looking like the outside is going to need to be cleaned sanded and repainted, bad water damage to the birth, need of replacement of all wood inside and out, new ropes, new trailor, and the whole inside cleaned. Thats just the beginning, I do not know what is under the wood in the birth. I pumped out the water today, but there is still some in it. If anyone has a possible estimate please tell me. I was going to guess in the couple thousand area.

Are you going to do this work yourself? If not I'd just get a boat yard to estimate the cost of fixing it. But if the wood is rotten inside, the deck core may need repairing and the rigging may need replacing and the sails are probley more than 8 years old, etc, etc.Rigging done right: 800-1200new sails: Daysailing 1000 Racing 2500Minor deck core repairs 500rebuild interior 1000New cushions 800-1200New motor 1600boat paint and minor repairs 450 - 1200Sand repair and paint above deck 800-1500Of course you could just do the minimum with what you have and get it in the water and sail it until it falls apart. There are tons of free and near free boats for a good reason. It is a sellers market for used sailboats that are in good condition.

Don't kill yourself get on the water

Sounds like a whole lot of not fun in my book. I'd rather spend my free time on the water. My first open day sailor (16' 1975 Tanzer-similar to a Flying J) cost $1000, and I sold it for $750 when I moved up three seasons later......and that was with a severely rotted transom. Spend a little more to get something you can actually enjoy. Or buy something functional that you won't mind sailing for a couple years then hauling to the junk yard.
