My Hunter 37.5 Legend fixed side windows over the galley that are old cracked and cloudy as well as leaking. I want to change them out but I am unsure as they are sitting in a bed of black rubber silicon. Getting the old ones out is not a problem but putting back in new I'm not sure. Anyone install these before? Do I need to carve out all the old black material? What material to use to set the new windows into? Any help appreciated.
Thanks

I replaced the fixed window on my H34 a little while ago. There might be some information you can use from this posting regarding how I adhered the new glass to the cabin. I used a combination of butyl and structural grade Silicone glazing material.

If you remove the old window, you have to clean out the sealant completely to get a good leak free installation of the replacement.

GB : You will want to use acrylic (not lexan). The sealant is Dow795. Be sure thatall of the old sealant has been removed. There are probably screw holes in the existing window. These are used to hold the plexiglass in position unlit the sealant cures. The screws should be removed and the holes filled after the windows are set. Be very careful when drilling holes near the edge as the acrylic tends to chip and break. Sometimes it is cheaper to have some else do this for you.
