Fitting new Window seals

Hello All
I recently attempted to fit a new rubber window seal on my Mk II Vega whilst she was on the hard. Having cut the old seal out I then discovered the 'spare' that came with the boat was 1" too short!
The boat is now back in the water with no hope of being able to do the job on dry land for several years. Has anyone done this successfully (without falling in) and can provide tips or suggestions on how to fit new rubber seals whilst afloat - it doesn't look like it is going to be an easy job with such limited access on the side deck.

I replaced one of the large window seals while boat was afloat but tied
up alongside.

I arranged settee cushions so that if the window fell *into* the saloon
it would probably :)-) ) not hit anything hard.

Then I lay on the sidedeck and got on with it.

Not much fun but when I do the other one it will be easier...

Thanks for the information and advice.
I have been in touch with Seals Direct but hadn't realised there were fitting instructions at the end of their catalogue - very helpful. The extensive use of silicone is interesting as it will provide a very good seal against water ingress - just hope I never have to replace them again!
