Have any of you done business with Fisheries Supply in Seattle, WA?

I ordered a mast eye from them on Nov 3d. I did not get any shipping information so I called them on Nov 4th and learned that thy did not have one available so I cancelled the order. On Nov 4th they charged my CC for the shipping. On Nov 5th I ask them why they charged me and their response was that they did not have a record of any charge. On Nov 8th I sent them a copy of the charge listed on my CC statement. On Nov 14th they still say that they did not charge me. I am still trying to get a credit for that charge.

put that in dispute and stop the charge until you can get it sorted out and make copy's of everything you have and document all conversations with them and you bank ...this is a PIA but that's about all you have right now

I ordered one item from them about 4-5 years ago and had no problem at all. Obviously, YMMV. I've never heard of any recurring issues with them- you are the first. Sorry to hear yo have this problem.

Credit card charges can be a two step process, and many online merchants do that (as we do). At the time of order your card is "authorized" which gives the merchant permission to charge your card within a few days; it also "approves" the charge. Then, at the time of shipment, the funds are "captured." That's when money changes hands.

If you use a debit card or monitor your credit card statement daily, that authorization looks just like a charge... but it isn't. After 3 to 10 days it will drop off your statement. Unfortunately, that time period is different for every bank so it's difficult to know for certain.

If you call the merchant and ask about a charge they won't have one because they're thinking "capture." But because the order was cancelled the capture never happened, you just see the authorization on your statement.

It's very confusing and causes a lot questions and misunderstandings. It's worked this way for many years but wasn't an issue until we could all see our charges in real time. Call your bank and find out if the charge is really a charge or just an auth.

Fisheries is a legit company and they're a neighbor of ours. Good people, nothing to worry about. Although you'll probably get better prices from us. :)

There's a few select people on here that I consider the final word, and Phil would have to be one of them. That WAS cool info.

(How'd y'all like THAT shameless bit of ass kissing, huh? Huh?)..

BTW, Fisheries catalog is my engineering workbook. If it ain't there, I better start barking in a different direction..

Phil

Thanks

I order frequently from internet sites. I normally see a pending charge for $1.00 which stays for a couple of days but never gets posted to my account. Fishries Supply charged the shipping cost. This charge was posted 12 days ago and is still there. Fishries Supply refuses to issue a credit.
