my fp4200 direct salt water cooling is 10 years old but only has 170 hours on it as it is too noisy to leave on for long. Last time, it overheated and shut down. The mechanic replaced the impeller, but no improvement. At the boat show, a technician said that it was probably corroded inside and there was nothing to be done. (He also said I should have flushed it with fresh water after every use! Fat chance of doing that in the Chesapeake Bay. )
Does anyone have suggestions? The boat is a Hunter 380.

You might try replacing the temp sensor. Does it have a thermostat? If so, might check that.

Relay

I had a bad connection at the cooling relay and I tried replacing the relay,
the cooling relay is the one to the right and I also squeezed the connections
down inside the female plug.
It does have a internal cooling pump that could be a problem, have you checked
to see how much cooling exhaust water coming out.
I would call Fisher Panda and ask to help you,I called them a year ago and they really helped out with my relay problem.
Maybe try one of those salt cleaning solutions into the cooling but really call
FP first and tell them your problem and what your mechanic said.
