First time steppin with a roller furler

Help. I launched her on Saturday abd stepped the mast. Hunters system is great as compared to the old muscle her up method. However after stepping in only 10 minutes I ran into a mess. This nboat has a roller furler. I couldn't get the head stay (with furler) to reach the bow plate so I could pin her. I was 2" short. Finally I rigged the jib halyard to a boom vang rig, attached it to the bow cleat and pulled. I was able to pull the top of the mast forward enough to make the head stay reach the bow plate and slip in the in. There's got to be an easier way. Help !!!!!!!!!!!!!Hayden

Hayden, I don't know the size of your boat but I

will guess a H26 with a CDI furling unit. If the mast tension is properly set up it very well could require the boom vang block to secure the furler. On my 26 it does. I just spent a great deal of time last summer adjusting my standing and running rigging and it improved the performance by abouit 40 %. A real susprise. Check the pivot point at the top of the furler.

The first couple of times I stepped the mast I had the same problem. I noticed at the top of the furler where it attaches to the mast that a pivot device/bracket was not seated properly and was pointing slightly to the side rather than forward. I am a furler newbie also but once I got this oriented properly it bought me those last two difficult inches to get it pinned. Worth a look the next time. Good luck.
