Hello Hunter 31 owners, This is my first boat, a 1984 Hunter 31 brought right at the end of season ,and have no information supplied to help me with setting it up for next season. Specifically, I am looking for basic set up information for this boat, mainly to do with routing all the lines from the boom. For one thing this will let me know if I have received all the stuff from the previous owner. For instance, running forward from the traveller, running through a series of blocks and down to the foot of the mast. I can't believe it then simply goes through a boom bail back off to the stopper. should'nt there be a block to reduce friction? Also does this mechanism act as a boom vang? Is there some printed information out there such as a manual that I can get to help me?

To help you get started.

Tony: Here is a link to a copy of the H'31 manual. http://www.scottssweaters.com/rubicon/manual/manual.htm The main sheets are attached to the traveler with a block. There should be some loops on the bottom of the mast. There are a couple of blocks that attach to these loops. The line then runs forward to a block on the mast base. Then to the organizer on the startboard side. This organizer handles the main halyard and the main sheets. The traveler line is a continous line that attaches to the jam cleats at the end of the traveler. On the port side there is an organizer that handles the two jib halyards.

You will get a lot of help here...

The current and former owners of the H31 on this site are a valuable source of info. I had a 194 H31 and really loved that boat. I moved up but still like my 31 the best! Warning: Steve Dion is superman when it comes to boats (think Martha Stewart pre jail.) None of us mortals can live up to his standards, but he knows an awful lot about the H31.
