Well I am going to try my first single handed sail from Blaine to Vancouver heading north on the 31st , winds at 12mph out of the southeast , partial run against the tide but those are the breaks. Leaving at 7 then to Canadian customs 45min away and then sails up and hopefully a long run to Point Atkinson and then up the Fraser river to the River Rck Casino for tie up. Hope the weather holds up as it is cold In Vancouver

Don't know if you're planning to upgrade your boat with your winnings from the casino but if you like getting away from it all at this time of the year, Union Steamship Marina in Snug Cove, Bowen Island is a great place to go. Moorage is around $1.00/ft. at this time of year.

Or if you want to completely be on your own, Port Graves on Gambier Island is only a few miles beyond and is deserted at this time of year. Well protected and excellent anchoring in mud and gravel. No moorage. A heater is mandatory for this time of year. Just the greatest if you like to sit and read.

I've included a few pics of our neighbourhood in the summer and then one which was taken in the winter a few years ago. They both have their beauty.

You have to watch the North Arm of the Fraser River flow as it is greatly influenced by the ebb/flood tides. Check the weather reports at http://www.weatheroffice.gc.ca/canada_e.htmlIt and monitor Victoria Traffic Services on VHF 11 and Vancouver Traffic Services on VHF 12. It is a long run up river from Wreck Beach to River Rock and I don’t think I could do it against the current.
