After months of preparation and anticipation today was the day. Problem happens as I'm getting ready to leave this morning, I can't find my gin pole. Long story buy I still have no idea where it is. I call my friend who is waiting for me to pick him up and tell him that we can;t sail today. He counters with "we should be able lift the mast ourselves" That cheered me up and off we went. Minus that gin pole, the two of us were noy going to raise that mast. I suggested I use my spinniker pole in lieu of the gin pole. It worked. My question is... was this stupid, even though it worked? Is this an adequate exchange? If not, where can I get another gin pole?
It was done out of desperation to get sailing and I hope I didn't carelessly risk the boat or worse injuring my friend. End of the day we had a great sail, 8 - 11 knotts, very steady and it was a terrific first sail. Thoughts...
