I am considering purchase of a used Catalina 16.5 as my first sailboat, primarily to single hand or have a friend aboard from time to time.Plan to sail NE lakes and Cape Cod, MA Coast, and coast of ME up to Bar Harbor. Since this is my first sailboat, I have a number of questions about outfitting her and what types of additional equipment I'll need to purchase to get her in the water and sailing in MA. What is required past registering the trailer ($15) in MA. Does the boat have to be registered? What type of anchor setup are others using with the Capri or similar sailboats in the NE? Does the centerboard version have any issues with getting the centerboard out after capsizing/turtling? I've seen posts about the Precision 18.5 having no safe airspace in the cockpit when turtled. ? Does anyone have pics of the rigging (close up) or have a rigging manual I could see or copy prior to purchase..? Are there any recommended/urgent upgrades/modifications needed to the Capri 16.5 for better performance out of the gate? What are folks using for cockpit cushions and how are they attachting the cushions (velcro, snaps, other.) to keep the together after a capsize?
