beneteau first 38 callao va
Hi folks...buying a 83 first 38...I have 6ft at the dock so needed shoal draft mine is w/o all the spinny bits & winches so I guess it's the charter version?...I see there are several owners on here...I've got a couple issues I need to deal with.

1) The gigot? furler is sticking...current owner says lower bearings shot, any resources about how to rehab them or is replace a better bet? Looks original.
2) Looks like I only have one genny halyard that is occupied by the furler...gonna need an assy spin...can I add a halyard?
3) any owners manuals out there?
4) Suggestions for problem areas to look out for?

Thanks
Jim

It my be very difficult if not impossible to get parts for your furler considering its age.
I am not clear whether you are referring to your mainsail furler or jib furler. If it is your jib furler, it might be advisable to get a new one. (I know, money is always an issue)

As John indicated, you probably have sheaves at the masthead for an extra halyard. Again looking at age, all of those sheaves if plastic, are probably brittle and would need to be replaced.

Everything is fixable ( time and money ), bearings should be easy just don't drop the parts overboard. The only manual I have found is in French. Nice pics but not helpful to me.
