Some time ago I asked about biminis for a First 310. I had some helpful suggestions and said I'd share my results.
The photo shows the following:
1. Rear bimini is 75" high so I can stand easily and see through a window to the top of the mast. The bimini is secured with 1' tubing and NO STRAPS.
2. The forward bimini is 67" and also has solid tubing with no straps.
3. The center portion (looks like a windshield) zips between the two when I'm in my slip for full cockpit coverage. When not in, you can step aboard without ducking or being blocked by any frame.
4. The screen aft zips to the back of the rear bimini to minimize the intensity of the morning or afternoon sun without blocking view or airflow. The center section opens if you want to go swimming off the walk through transom.
5. I had a flattening reef put in the main for crusing with the two biminis up.
6. To race, I can lower the front bimini forward and secure on the handrails with bungees; then remove the flattening reef so the boom can drop to full main size.
7. It provides the best of both worlds - cruising and racing - and protects a fair-skinned wife.
8. I added stern rail seats so two people can enjoy a sail without being in the cockpit. It gives me a lot more freedom of movement for sailing the boat.
