First 285 Rudder

The rudder on my 285 is very stiff and I am considering dismantling it to try and fix this problem. Has anyone carried out this procedure? I would be very grateful for any information.

Stiff Rudder

I would look at all the other possibilities before I would start to dismantle the rudder. Make sure that the steering mechanism is properly lubricated, that he brake hasn't frozen etc. etc. While I haven't disassebled a rudder I did lose one several years back after hitting a submerged piling and, quite frankly, I'm glad I let the yard fix it. it is not a simple processGood LuckCharlie

Thanks for the response Charlie but I forgot to mention that my 285,like all UK boats is tiller steering so the advice about the wheel steering mechanism and the brake? does not apply
