Beneteau 26 Dunedin
Hello,
I have a 1986 first 26 and would really like to replace the traveler. Does anyone know what brand traveler was used back then? I thought I measured 1M with 100mm centers but when I tried to line up a harken replacement it was off by like 1 or 2 mm.

Thanks!

I would take a hard look at the Lewmar Size1 traveler kit. Lewmar uses a 'hidden bolt' system that allows you to line up the bar to existing holes. Great idea. We put one on our First 260 and love it.

Hi Jack,
Yeah I was looking at both the lewmar and harken solutions for mounting tracks without drilling new holes. Have you had any issues with the track coming loose with that system? I'm definitely leaning towards one of those if I can't find an exact replacement. The lewmar kits seem reasonably priced as well.

Thanks,
Dave

Oh wow you are the owner of Blue J!? When I was shopping around for a boat, I came across your blog posts a few times. I always thought how nice it would be to find a used 260 or 25.7. I'm so jealous of the space you have in the cockpit, my boat gets cramped with any more than 3 crew members.

I assume Blue J was made overseas, how did you manage to get it over here? And how's the cabin? I imagine they had to shorten the cabin a little to make room for the bigger cockpit.

P.S. yes the main was terrible on that race. What a shame to lose the lead after such a great start. I had no working outhaul or traveler, and the gusts were luffing the main badly on the upwinds. I'll get them next time though ;-)

BlueJ? Guilty as charged! She came over on her trailer in a RORO (roll on roll off) transport. The original owner brought to the USA after living and buying her in the UK. I'm pretty sure she is the only one in the USA, but now with the First 25s being sold here the shape will get more common.

Shes actually only 24.5 feet long. The cockpit might be a bit longer than yours, FOR SURE a lot wider. When we race (with typically 4 or 5) we have only three in the cockpit; driver, main and jib trimmers. The pit stands in the companionway, and foredecker is in front of the mast.

Downstairs she's fine. The big beam (9.5) really helps room-wise. There's a video tour on my blog. Shes a perfect couples boat.

The 265 replaced your boat and is quite similar to the 26. The 260 replaced the 265 and is totally different; much lighter, bigger rig, and simpler in terms of cruising gear. No pressure or heated water, no gas stove, no fridge. No aft cabin. I think Beneteau wanted to make the mid-25s boat a sporty dayboat with overnight capabilities, and not a pocket cruiser which is was for sure with the 26 and 265.

We love it; the non-overlapping sailplan kills us on very light (<5 knots) days; but otherwise she's a blast.
