Does anyone know where I might find a deep keel for my 235? I'm on deep water now and I'm considering changing the keel. I'm thinking it should be an easy switch since I assume the keel bolts match. Any suggestions? Would anyone want to swap a deep keel for my wing keel?

Get a New One

I don't think you will be able to find anyone that would switch. In fact I have been seriously looking for a 235 is a fin keel. These are not easy to fine. There is currently one for sale in the Sacramento area but I think swapping the keel would be more trouble that it is worth. I'm sure you the double labor would probably be in the same ballpark as a new keel. Check out this site, http://home.earthlink.net/~beneteau235/ by Kelly. (It's a great site about 235's.) It has a link to a person that will make you a new keel. I am seriously thinking of going this route myself. The 235 is a great boat and I live in San Francisco and a deeper keel I believe would really improve this boat in my area. --Dan

New Keel

I checked into the new design keel. It will cost about as much as a couple good racing sails and my guess is will improve performance more. Looks like a logical modification. Wonder what it will do to my PHRF? I like that it will help most in higher wind. It's very fast in light wind now but dies when the wind and wave action picks up. It will make the boat more consistant since I go from mid pack in a breese to finishing way out front in very light wind conditions. I'll gladly give up time on PHRF in light condiions to be more competitive in higher wind. Bravura speaks highly of the hull design and says it's great with no modifications needed. The 235 with the new keel could be the new coustom race boat for those of us without huge budgets. Realisticly you could buy the boat used, add the keel and new sails for around $20K. You would have a great small weekend cruiser and beat the pants off anything in its size range performance wise weather going round the bouys or getting to an anchorage first.

That just what I want to do!

We are viewing this exactly the same way. I just need to go for it! If you do get the new keel please keep me posted on the results. Good Luck. --Dan
