I just cooked up a great boom vang. I eye spliced the 1/4" dbl braid to the becket of one of the blocks and also made an extension spliced from the other block to a snap shackle. My question is...I've seen many instructions for splicing and many "pro" splices. Several web sites from rope manufacturers instruct you to cross stitch the splice, while I cant remember ever seeing a "pro" splice that has any siezing or cross stitching. The splices are firm and getting the needle through them would be a heck of a job. Any adivce?

Seizing is not necessary

I have not seized the eye spices in double braided line eye splices that I have aboard my C-22. These are for the jib halyard (CDI furler, main halyard is wire), boom vang, traveler lines, reef tack line, main sheet, anchor rodes, and docking lines. However, sometimes when splicing old double braided line for some new use, I may add some stitching with whipping twine followed sometimes with a wrap around seizing similar to that one the end of lines. A recent case is where I used an end to end splice to join two lines to make a longer line to be used as an anchor rode. As I rarely make that particular splice and my skills and experiences with are minimal, I stitched in some whipping twine into the splice as a precaution.
