Here's a link to my newly completed project wherein I replaced the compression post and main bulkhead. Last month, I was browsing this forum's archives and came across some scary photos of the severe rot others had discovered inside their compression posts. That was enough for me to examine mine and sure enough my boat's post had rotted away as well. Since the post was out, and a portion of the bulkhead had also rotted away, I decided to replace the main bulkhead as well.

Bite the Bullet

When you do the work yourself it's fairly inexpensive. No wonder I always had trouble tuning the standing rigging. I imagine it's hard to tune the mast when it's support post has been compromised and you aren't aware of it. It was the scary photos of others who found the same on their boats that pushed me to investigate, then make the repair. The best part for me is the constant reminder how much money I saved doing it myself. I haven't any special carpentry talents, so if I can do it anyone can. Scott s/v Rubicon Key West

Great job Scott

It looked like it was a lot of work but the end result looks great!
