I am learning how difficult it is to find a trailer for an ODAY 222. The boat I am acquiring is in a slip, and I need a trailer. I have been told that I really need a trailer that has a bottom mount board to hold the keel locker, even though it is a shoal draft keel on the ODAY 222, because the hull should not take all the pressure of the bunkers or rollers. I have also heard from some trailer owners that I really don't need this bottom board, that it is sufficient to hold the boat up with the bunkers or rollers. What can you experienced sailers tell me about this? Also, where can you find a trailer with out it costing an arm and a leg? Thanks, Lynn

drop the centerboard

Drop the centerboard onto whatever is below it to relieve the hull of some of its weight. That all hinges (pardon the pun) on you finding a trailer. GOOD LUCK! I've been looking for 2 years.

Found a new trailer for a 23 ODay..low price too

Karavan makes a 26 foot 3100 lb single axle trailer, called a Model KKB 3100 78-L and it is very reasonably priced, but you need to add another axle to carry any extra weight above that of a dry boat. Mine, with an extra aftermarket 3500# axle came to 3200 Canadian dollars all together, about 2560 USD (EX taxes). All welded and galvanized with an empty weight of 780 lbs plus the xtra axle for about 880# total. It will haul 7000 lbs as modified. Has surge type hydraulic brakes on one axle.
