So a couple months ago I bought an 87 H23. Brought it home and figured out how to raise the mast and sails. I have no sailboat experience at all! So Tuesday me and the kids went out. Hardly any wind but that was ok since I had no clue on what to do. With the little wind we had I was able to actually sail the damn thing! Today we went out and I got the old lady to go. Very windy but we did good. The day would have been perfect except it was about 104 and the usual idiots at the ramp. The kids had a great time but the old lady didn't like my bass boat or the sailboat. Oh well too bad for her. Cant wait to get on the water again.

First congratulation on the Hunter 23. You will find this forum a tremendous wealth of information from folks here and under Owner Resources you can look up by model the information on your boat.

May I make a suggestion if you want your wife to go with you in the future. I suggest taking a few lessons the two of you with an instructor and let the instructor teach and not you. Have you ever heard a spouse teaching a spouse to drive, etc. and the problems attached with that. Suggest a few lessons. Next the two of you go out and learn together without the kids and then take the kids. For sailing, I would wait till it is cooler with wind and do not heel over 12-14 degrees. If you do heel over too far, you may very well scare the little lady and then you are on your own sailing. Many have learned the hard way. Just food for thought. I am a retired sailboat dealer specializing in the small boats.
