Dear Brion, I purchased The Complete Rigger`s Apprentice book and your video tapes on inspecting a tuning you rig. I have a 1995 Hunter 35.5 which has the same B&R rig as the Hunter 37 you show on your video. I went thru all the steps, but I have a question on the final shroud tensioning. After the mast is straight, and you have tensioned all the shrouds until they are not loose, do I tighten the shrouds to their specific tension for their wire diameter size, checking them with the Loss tension gauge? Hi there, The trouble with producing books and video's is that years later the things you say get thrown back at you, long after you've forgotten you'd said them. Did I not address tuning tension on that Hunter? If not, oops. And yes, of course you want to put an actual tune on, but it's a little more complex than that on most Hunters. If it is an actual B&R, you ideally will tune the diamonds before the mast goes in. Since this is rarely possible for owners, I showed an altenative method for that boat, using the backstay to impose a starting bend, and working my way down the mast to fair and tension. If you have discontinuous rigging and diamond shrouds, this is what you will need to do, and it will involve at least one trip aloft. You should end up, then, with from 10% to 12% or so on every wire except the backstay, which is vestigial on this boat. Hunter probably has a manual to help with this process. Not real strong on principles, but good for generay procedure. Fair leads, Brion Toss
