I wrote a few weeks ago about getting a geyser from back pressure when I filled my #4 & 5 water tanks. Same problem on now on #1 & 2. I did notice that there appear to be no vents on the hull near the fills for these tanks, other than one vent, I assume for the aft holdng tank. Do you have more than the one vent amidships on the starboard side (maybe you have one port and two starboard)? Did Hunter neglect to install the vents for my tanks? I do have a note into Hunter on this. I think the fwd tank does have a good vent and fills OK.

Dave, Check the manual...

it will show you where the vents are supposed to be. I'm certain they have to be there or you would be pulling a vacuum trying to get water out of the tanks in question. I suspect the problem may be that you are filling the tanks faster than the air can escape and building up pressure inside the tank. Have you tried filling the tanks with the hose at 1/2 pressure? I don't seem to have the same problem you describe on our boat, but will check the location of my tank vents next time I'm on the boat.

460 vents

Dear Dave: The air vents are designed in the stanchions.

hidden vents?

Yes - filling water very slowly, or at least as slowly as I would expect to be able to w/o causing a backup. Re Stantions - I tool the stantions off to truck the boat - I did notice a couple of tubes coming up one or two of the stantions - thought they were some sort of wire race - but could not figure out why. If they are the vents, one more minor mystery solved...

water tanks full!

Problem resolved. User Error. When I trucked my boat up from SF to Seattle, the yard that prep''ed the boat taped the vents hidden in the stanchions closed. I removed the tape, and water fills freely. Duh.

Unbelievable

Dave: Isn't this website an unbelievable wealth of information. This is better than having your own personal psychiatrist (or psychic) beside you!
