Anyone have a source for long fiberglass rods? Like 5/16 that’s 6 feet or longer. Want to make a rain “fly” – Conestoga style, and haven’t found anything but short lengths. Thanks

Try checking at a camping store or Walmart for tent poles that fit together. Also for heavier duty, you can purchase fiberglass rods used for cleaning fireplace flues. They snap together much the same way tent ploes do. Home depot may have them.

Alternative thought

Could you possibly use PVC plumbing tubing available in any home building supply. It is used to support sun shades and winter covers. I don't know about the bend radius. It comes in 10 ft. lengths.

any size pole

http://www.alcasoft.com/ta-enterprises/ is a company that will manufacture almost any size fold up fg pole. I had him make some long poles for the type of cover you describe sized for the fordeck of my P42.

I've gotten 6' rods in a farm type store, they sell them for electric fences.

recycle!

How about using fiberglass whip antennas? Just go break them off of powerboats in your marina!

Batten material

West Marine sells uncut batten material. It's flat and 1-5/8" wide. The lengths are quite long.

Ahah!

So THAT'S where my father-in-law's power boat whip antenna went!

Thank you everyone

Lots of good ideas. Though Mr. Ostrander's takes first prize.
